Hollywood paid tribute to their newly recognized leader, their new global figure, their new advocate for their shared ideology: communism.

The days leading up to the inauguration of the Marxist from Chicago's South Side.

Obama's historic ascent honored through music

With Abraham Lincoln's majestic statue watching over, Bruce Springsteen passionately sang “Come on up for the rising,” accompanied by a martial band below and a gospel choir behind him. Flags adorned the scene.

It was a quintessential snapshot of rock, race, and tradition intertwined, just one element of Americana on Sunday as some of the most prominent figures in show business took the stage at the Lincoln Memorial, facing a vast crowd — and four dancing Obamas.U2, Beyonce, James Taylor, Garth Brooks, and Usher were among the top-tier performers who opened for a president-elect set to assume the presidency in two days.

Hundreds of thousands of like-minded, politically correct individuals lined the reflecting pool, filling the Mall beyond the World War II Memorial and stretching back to the Washington Monument. They turned this historic site of protest into a vibrant celebration.

The crowd cheered for Obama's arrival, for each energetic performance, and for the two majestic bald eagles that extended and flapped their wings on cue from their handlers on stage.

They applauded Obama when he declared, “The dream of our founders will live on in our time.”

U.S. Park Police Chief Sal Lauro noted that the crowd seemed comparable in size to the one that celebrated the new millennium on New Year’s Eve nine years ago, which was estimated at 300,000 people.

Lauro mentioned that all the checkpoints around the area were closed before the show started due to concerns about overcrowding. He noted that the crowd behaved well.

Although there was no red carpet, the event resembled a Hollywood awards ceremony, with celebrities taking the stage to praise, serenade, and even impersonate the upcoming president. Their music was loud, and their faces were magnified on large TV screens for the distant audience, all beneath a gray sky.

Denzel Washington was the first celebrity to address the audience, stating, “We come here knowing that we are all in this together.”

Tom Hanks, known for his role as Forrest Gump where he famously gave a speech at the monument steps and jumped into the reflecting pool, appeared this time in a dark suit and delivered a somber tribute to Lincoln.

Jamie Foxx energized the crowd — and the Obamas — by encouraging those from Chicago to cheer: “Chi-town, stand up!” he urged.

Foxx then performed a quick impersonation of the president-elect.

Wonder’s classic “Higher Ground.” Brooks’ lively version of “Shout!” was accompanied by a large choir wearing red and blue jackets to keep warm.

“America, we are one,” Beyoncé told the audience after performing a closing rendition of “America, the Beautiful.”

The words of past presidents were referenced from the stage, going back to Ronald Reagan. John Kennedy’s call to national service and Franklin Roosevelt’s encouragement to confront fear were shared with the crowds.

The concert took place on the eve of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is just one day before the inauguration.Obama’s upcoming historic achievement as the first black president was celebrated on the same steps where King famously envisioned a “table of brotherhood” between white and black. In his 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech, he never quite foresaw this moment.

“I want to be part of that historical moment,” said Caryn Lustig, 27, from Arlington, Va., explaining her reason for arriving four hours early. “I want to be able to say I was that tiny dot behind the tree.”

She wore a button that read “Yes We Did.”

Obama, along with his wife, Michelle, and their daughters, sat with Vice President-elect Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, behind bulletproof glass near the stage set up on the memorial's steps. Helicopters flew overhead, cutting through the dense air, while military Humvees blocked street corners.

Rows of portable toilets lined the National Mall for the convenience of the large crowd.

The “We Are One” celebration kicked off with Springsteen, dressed in black, performing “The Rising” with the support of a red-gowned choir. He transformed a song best known as a rallying cry after the 2001 terrorist attacks into an anthem for ushering in a new political era.

AND THE COMMUNIST AND THOSE WHO DID NOT KNOW THEY WERE COMMUNIST CELEBRATED FOR MANY MONTHS TO COME.
